Pune:On the occasion of Makar Sankranti festival, the exhibition and sale of the goods made by the inmates was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Police (State Prisons and Correctional Services), Amitabh Gupta at Yerwada Central Jail Industry Sales Centre.
Mr Gupta said that the goods manufactured by the jail will soon be made available for purchase by citizens on the e-marketplace (Yerwada Jail Exhibition).
On the occasions, west Division Deputy Inspector General of Jails Swati Sathe, Headquarters Deputy Inspector General of Jails Sunil Dhamal, Yerwada Central Jail Superintendent Shiv Shankar Patil, District Legal Services Authority Secretary Mangal Kashyap and others were present.
Gupta said that the inmates of the jail have many latent talents. By providing a nurturing environment for prisoners to cultivate their talents hobbies while in prison, they create various creative things.
Being engaged in work, they can keeps themselves busy during their prison term, said Gupta.
He also said that the facilities required to be provided to the convicts as per the law will be made available by the prison department.
Gupta further said that various departments of the government have provided prison manufactured tables, chairs, cupboards, uniforms, Satranji, sarees, files which demands are continued.
But the innovative and quality goods created by the prisoners are bought by the citizens on various festivals are produced in prisons in various districts of the state through the Maharashtra Prisons Department.
Exhibition and sales fairs (Yerawada Jail Exhibition) which are being organized.
There is a need to make awareness the prison products on a large scale and efforts are being made in this regard, said Gupta.
