Imphal: Commemorating the International Women’s Day, Indian Army organised a number of events in different parts of Manipur honouring and motivating the women.
A Special Medical Camp for Women at Kanto Sabal Relief Camp in Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district to provide essential healthcare services and to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene. The importance of sanitary pads was explained, and they were distributed to the women populace.

The camp featured health check-up, medicine distribution, health screening for anaemia, hypertension, diabetes and personal health issues faced by women. Over 200 women actively participated in the medical camp and got benefitted with the professionalism and experience of the Army Doctors. The healthcare professionals also conducted consultations, counselling and guidance on menstrual health, mental health, nutrition and safe hygiene practices.
As part of the event, an awareness session was held to educate women on the importance of self-breast examination and cervical care for early detection of breast and cervical cancer. The event also highlighted the importance of using sanitary products and further emphasised the prevention of cervical infections. The session also aimed to break taboos surrounding menstruation and encouraged open conversations about women’s health.

By addressing critical health concerns and ensuring access to basic hygiene products, the initiative fosters a healthier Army resounds its responsibility towards a well-informed society.
The Indian Army also conducted an inspirational lecture on the ‘Role of Women in the Armed Forces’ at Khurkhul Standard English School in Imphal West district. The session was held to inspire over 120 young minds by showcasing the remarkable contributions of women in uniform and their growing presence in national defence.
The lecture highlighted the journey of women in the armed forces, their achievements, challenges, and expanding career opportunities. Through real-life examples and engaging discussions, students were encouraged to consider careers in defence and contribute to the nation’s security.

Women from Moirangpurel, Itham, Island and Tumukhong Villages turned out in large numbers at the SDO Office, Island Village, to mark International Women’s Day with a focus on empowerment, gender equality and opportunities for women.
The event featured an insightful talk by Indian Army personnel on women’s empowerment, gender equality, and avenues for women, inspiring attendees to play a more active role in society. A lecture was conducted by an Army veteran and a lady doctor, Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Angom Manitombi (Retired) Health, followed by a medical health camp, which included screening for Breast Cancer and other health-related issues, emphasizing the importance of well-being alongside empowerment.

115 women received treatment and consultation during the Medical Camp. Women also shared their perspectives on the occasion, expressing their commitment to breaking barriers and shaping a better future. The event concluded with a collective pledge to work towards an inclusive and progressive society.
