India logs nearly 19K fresh Covid cases

New Delhi: India has registered 18,987 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours taking the total tally to 34,02,730, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

A total of 246 deaths were reported in the same period, pushing the overall toll to 45,1435.

The recovery rate touched 98.07 per cent, said the Ministry, as 19,808 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,33,62,709.

Active caseload is lowest over the last seven months at 0.61 per cent with 2,06,586 people still fighting the virus.

“The daily positivity rate is 1.44 per cent, which is less than 3 per cent for last 45 days, whereas weekly positivity rate is 1.44 per cent which also remains less than 3 per cent for the last 111 days now,” the Ministry reported.

In the last 24 hours, India administered 35,66,347 vaccine doses as the coverage exceeded 96,82,20,997 as per provisional reports till 7 a.m. Thursday. “This has been achieved through 94,82,108 sessions,” the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the testing capacity across the country continued to be expanded as a total of 13,01,083 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total cumulative tally to over 58.76 crores.

The data suggested that more than 98.88 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through the direct state procurement category. “More than 8.89 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered,” the data said.
