India logs 46.7K new cases, 509 deaths in past 24 hrs

New Delhi: India reported 46,759 new COVID-19 cases and 509 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.

The positivity rate during the same period has also risen at 2.66 per cent, it added.

The active caseload stands at 3,59,775 after reporting a rise of 14,876 cases, the figures showed.

As per the Ministry, the share of active cases has risen to more than 1.1 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, 31,374 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,18,52,802. As per the data, the recovery rate is now reduced to 97.56 per cent.

The Union Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.1 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 64 days now.

The daily positivity rate (2.66 per cent) was less than 3 per cent for the last 33 days, it added.

A total of 51,68,87,602 samples were tested for the virus till Friday. Of these, 17,61,110 samples were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Besides, the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination program has achieved an important landmark after India administered 1,03,35,290 vaccine doses in a single day yesterday. The country’s vaccination coverage has surpassed the cumulative figure of 62.29 crores.
