New Delhi: India is facing both terrorism and expansionism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as he addressed the nation on 75th Independence Day.

The Prime Minister said terrorism and expansionism are two big threats to the world today.

“India is fighting both terrorism and expansionism,” Modi said adding that India is facing the challenge with courage and determination. He did not name any countries.

Prime Minister said India needed to be alert and stressed the importance of self-reliance in the defence sector.

Modi also mentioned the new indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, which recently went for sea trials, and said India is building submarines, fighter jets and now the Gaganyaan.

The Prime Minister also said no efforts would be spared in ensuring the nation’s security.

The statement comes as India is facing Chinese aggression in Ladakh where clashes between Indian and Chinese troops were seen in the Galwan valley last year. The concerns over terrorism, which has been called a ‘proxy war’ by India, have also increased with Taliban’s rise in Afghaistan.

Talks and disengagement process with China has been on, he said.
