Imphal-based media houses halt publication after bomb attack

The police said the incident took place around 6.30 pm at the office of the ‘Poknapham’ situated at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai. The safety pin of the grenade was found intact.

Imphal: All the Imphal-based media houses including print and local TV channels stopped publication and broadcast since Saturday evening after suspected militants lobbed a hand grenade at the office of a local daily.


Reports said that an unidentified person (a lady) hurled a hand grenade inside the office of a local newspaper ‘Paknapham’ on Saturday evening. However, the grenade failed to explode.
The police said the incident took place around 6.30 pm at the office of the ‘Poknapham’ situated at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai. The safety pin of the grenade was found intact.


The CCTV footage showed the grenade was hurled by a woman who came on a motorcycle.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur strongly condemned the incident and have announced to immediately cease news broadcasting and publication.


On Sunday, hundreds of journalists and correspondents had staged a sit-in protest against the attack on media houses.
