Imphal : The Indian Medical Association, has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur demanding termination from service of the security personnel near the Chief Minister’s residence at Luwangshangbam for assaulting Assistant Professor, JNIMS, Dr. K Soreingam.
As per the letter signed by the National President, IMA, Dr. J A Jayalal and the Honorary Secretary General, IMA, Dr. Jayesh Lele the incident occurred on the night of September 2, 2021 at around 8:15 pm when Dr. K Soreingam was returning from CMC Hospital, Kiorengei after picking up his wife who is a Gynecologist of the hospital.
“It is learned that even after identifying himself as a doctor and show his ID card the security personal abused him in front of his wife and even hit him with the issued rifle. Indian Medical Association condemned in strongest terms such an act of violence by personals in uniform who are the protector of the state. The security personals involved in this heinous act are not fit to serve the people and should be terminated within three days failing which the association will launch a series of state-wide protests. We are looking forward to your punitive action against the security personals in the interest of the medical fraternity of the state who are fighting the present pandemic’, the letter continued.
Meanwhile, reports said that a police officer in Imphal East was suspended for allegedly attacking Dr K Soreingam, who works at Imphal’s Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). Dr Soreingam was returning home after picking his wife Dr K. Lumthing, who works at the Catholic Medical Center.
Collin Kshethrimayum of CDO unit, Imphal East District allegedly assaulted Dr Soreingam and has been suspended.
