Illegal timber worth Rs 2.8 cr seized in Manipur

Imphal: Assam Rifles foiled timber smuggling by seizing timber worth Rs 2.88 crores near Ramva Village, Ukhrul District on Friday.

An Assam Rifles official said troopers intercepted two trucks loaded with illegal timber near Lambui Checkpost. On enquiring, the truck drivers could not produce legitimate documents of timber.  

The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to the Forest department, Ukhrul for further legal action.
