Agartala: The Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura on Thursday granted unconditional bail to 23 members of poll strategist Prashant Kishore’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) research group who were served notice accusing them of violating Covid protocol and charged under Disaster Management Act and section 188 of IPC.
The veteran lawyer and happened to be the president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Pijush Kanti Biswas who has appeared for I-PAC in the court told media that the young researchers of I-PAC were implicated with false case on baseless allegations and the court granted them bail without any condition and said, “We shall move to higher court against the harassment of I-PAC team by state police.”
The research team of I-PAC had reportedly come to Tripura last week to study the prospect of Trinamool  Congress in the state and police had kept the young professionals confined in a hotel here for three-days from Sunday night. Allegedly, after showing the valid documents and Covid negative report, police made them house arrest until they were re-tested Covid negative on Wednesday.
Based on the complaint of Sub Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Asim Saha, East Agartala police has registered a case against them and served notice summoning them to appear before the investigating officer in the police station on different dates between July 31 and August 3 next.
