Imphal: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he came to Manipur for peace, not to play politics.
Speaking to media persons in front of Raj Bhavan, after meeting with the state Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, here on Friday, the former Congress president said he came to share the pain of the people and to bring peace to the state.
What’s happening in Manipur is a horrible tragedy… extremely sad for the state as well as for the entire country, the Congress leader who came to Manipur on a two-day visit aimed at assessing the ongoing violence in the state on Thursday, said, adding that he has met all the affected people of both sides sheltering at various relief camps.

The Gandhi scion also urged the state government to improve basic amenities in the camps, foods need to be improved, and medicines need to be supplied.
Rahul said we need peace, it’s the most important thing. Violence will not get anything for anybody, peace is the only way forward for everybody, he added.
Earlier, the Congress leader called on the State Governor and discussed the present situation in Manipur. What was actually discussed in the meeting could not be independently verified at the time of writing.
