Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s most popular Balapur Ganesh laddu was auctioned for Rs 27 lakh during the auction held on the final day of the Ganesh idol immersion, this year on Thursday morning.
Every year, the auction is held on the final day of the Ganesh idol immersion.
The 21-kgs famous laddu, also known as golden laddu, was won by Dasari Dayanand Reddy.
However, last year, the laddu fetched Rs 24.6 lakh. The auction was won by Vengeti Laxma Reddy of VLR builders.
In 1994, the laddu was auctioned at Rs 450. Every year, the auction amount increased and today, it reached Rs 2.40 lakh.
As many as 36 people participated in the auction conducted by the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi.
The auctioning of laddu marks the start of the main Ganesh idol immersion procession in Hyderabad.
After travelling 19 km, the Balapur idol is finally immersed at Hussain Sagar Lake.
This year, the famed idol is expected to be immersed by 7 pm.
