Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh Thursday remembered Jananeta Hijam Irabot, one of the greatest leaders in modern history of Manipur, on his 126th birth anniversary which is celebrated on Friday.
Fondly called as ‘Lamyanba’ by people of the state, Hijam Irabot was a multi-faceted and a versatile humanistic revolutionary who stood against foreign and autocratic rule during the country’s freedom movement, said Biren in his message.
He was a freedom fighter, politician and social activist par excellence, a versatile personality, gifted poet and an accomplished scholar. His contribution in the field of literature, sports and social upliftment of the downtrodden continue to impact our lives to this day.
Biren said Irabot had sacrificed his youthful days organising mass campaigns for expressing patriotism, to maintain cultural and emotional integration amongst all communities and making people unitedly stand against all forms of oppression. For his pioneering works, the Chief Minister said, for the betterment of society, he was known as Jana neta and also as the first modern architect of Manipur.
The Chief Minister further appealed to the people to follow his ideals and translate his philosophies into action, taking the state toward inclusive development.
