Churachandpur: District Administration Churachandpur joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day. Apart from a gala celebration programme with the theme ‘Choose to Challenge’, a Loan Mela was also organised at the sideline of the programme at Tuibong Peace Ground, Churachandpur.
In all, fifty fully immunized children were felicitated. Awards were also presented to BBBP friendly village, Frontline Workers, Short Film contest winners, mother-daughter selfie contest winners, winners of painting competition, poetry and master chef competitions.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the programme, Mimi Khaute stated that International Women’s Day is a special day to reflect on the progress made to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who played an extraordinary role in the history of their country and communities.
She commented that this year International Women’s Day theme ‘Choose to Challenge’ aptly chosen as change is facilitated through overcoming challenges.She pointed out that during the Covid-19 pandemic, countries led by women have fewer cases. “Throughout this turbulent period one thing is clear- some countries have fared markedly better than other in suppressing the coronavirus and these countries tend to have female leaders,” Khaute asserted.
DC Pherzawl, Mannuamching, in her opening remarks stated “we cannot just choose to challenge unless we are prepared, we have a lot inequalities that we need to challenge” The best weapon for women to challenge the inequalities in the society is education as it gives financial independence, enlightenment, upliftment and the courage to fight.
Deputy Director, MSME-DI, Govt. of India, Reeta Yadav, stated that today is a day for celebrating women achievement in the social, economic, cultural and political spheres, the day collectively founded by women personalities excelling in different fields. Certainly, women have contributed significantly to the welfare of the society and the country and today is also an occasion for looking back to past struggles and accomplishment, said Yadav.
IFS, DFO Churachandpur, Esther Laltankim Serto, speaking on the occasion as president of the function said that International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world since 1911 and the main idea behind celebrating International Women’s Day is firstly for gender equality as well as for recognizing the achievement made by women in the society.
MSME-DI, Govt. of India, Th Baite, Director, speaking as the guest of honour said that women are quite capable of doing anything and can contribute in the economic development of society. He stressed the need to have more women entrepreneurs to take Churachandpur district ahead in terms of economic development.
