Srinagar: A gunfight erupted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora district on Wednesday a day after five militants were killed in two separate encounters in the South Kashmir region.

The gun battle between the terrorists and security forces is going on in Tilwani Mohalla of Tral region.

A team of joint forces launched a cordon and search operation following an input about the militant presence that led to the encounter.

“Encounter has started at Tilwani Mohalla Waggad in #Tral area of #Awantipora. Police & Security Forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet.

The Tral gunfight comes after Tuesday’s Shopian gunfights in which five Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed in two separate incidents. One of them claimed to be involved in the killing of a non-local street hawker at the Lal Bazar area.
