Group Captain Wangkhem Suresh nominated for Higher Defence Management Course

The Sainik School Imphal Alumni Association expressed pride in his achievements and encouraged him to continue making Manipur proud and serving the nation with distinction.

Imphal: Group Captain Wangkhem Suresh Singh from Manipur has been nominated to attend the prestigious Higher Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad, Telangana. He is the first Air Force officer from the state to receive this honor.

An alumnus of Sainik School Imphal (SSI), Suresh was born to Late W. Borobi and W. (O) Memton Devi of Kakwa Lamdaibung, Imphal East, Manipur. He is the younger brother of Colonel Wangkhem Somorjit Singh, also an alumnus of SSI.

Suresh is a member of the 20th Batch of Sainik School Imphal, Netaji House. During his school days, he served as School Vice-Captain and School Captain, earning numerous accolades. He excelled in drill and firing, participated in the Republic Day Camp (RDC) in New Delhi in 1997 as the first Senior Division Cadet from the school, and was the sole cadet from the North Eastern Region Contingent for the Youth Exchange program to Canada during the RDC. Known for his athletic prowess, academic excellence, helpful nature, and disciplined demeanour, Suresh was highly regarded by the school association.

He joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the 102nd Course Charlie Squadron and graduated with the Most Promising Horse Rider Trophy of his course. Suresh was commissioned into the Flying (Navigation) Branch of the IAF, earning the Best in Air Works Trophy.

With a service career spanning over twenty years, he has flown in various terrains and operated from multiple airfields in India and abroad. He specialized in valley flying in the Northern Himalayas and Arunachal hills in Tactical Transport Aircraft. Throughout his career, he completed numerous professional courses and served as an instructor at training establishments and as a supervisor at flying squadrons. He also successfully commanded an operational combat unit in the southwestern sector of the country.

The Sainik School Imphal Alumni Association (SSIAA) has congratulated Group Captain Suresh, wishing him all the best for his course. They expressed pride in his achievements and encouraged him to continue making Manipur proud and serving the nation with distinction.
