Kannur:Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty said the government will encourage to implement the Gender-neutral uniform for students in all the schools across the state.
Addressing the meet-the-press programme at Kannur Press club on Saturday, Mr Sivankutty said it was not the government’s decision to implement Gender-neutral uniform, the first of its kind, in Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) at Balussery in Kozhikode.
The decision was jointly taken by the local bodies, PTA and the school authorities, he said, even though a section of people opposed the change and as the majority of the public supported it, the government has decided to encourage this school uniform model across the state.
Pointing to the opposition of Muslim groups against the introduction of new uniform model, Mr Sivankutty said some people will always oppose to any changes.
“The existing online and offline classes for students will continue due to Covid pandemic.
He said the extension of time for regular school classes will be decided after Christmas vacation.”
The Minister said the revision of textbooks will be carried out by next academic year.
