Govt committed to fully securing NHs in the state: CM Biren

The Chief Minister said his government had already planned to deploy full mobile security teams that every 5-10 km along the national highways. Commando and security teams will be stationed at vulnerable areas as well

Imphal: Relying on a Calling Attention Motion moved by opposition MLA Khumukcham Joykishan Singh ‘on the reported collection of taxes by anti-social elements on NH-37’, Leader of the House N. Biren Singh informed the House that his government is fully committed to securing the NHs and control the law and order situation including such incidents of tax collection by unidentified persons along the NH’s. The government had already planned to deploy full mobile security teams that every 5-10 km along the national highways. Commando and security teams will be stationed at vulnerable areas as well, he stated.

Commenting on the reported incident, on the intervening night of January 31 and February 1, 2021 at Nungba area of Imphal-Jiribam National Highway 37, Biren informed that one cement loaded truck was reportedly pushed down the gorge by some identified persons in connection with taxes collected illegally from truck drivers/owners. Regarding the matter, one FIR has already been lodged and search is going on to nab the culprits.

The government condemns such kind of anti-social elements in the strongest term since drivers particularly plying on highways are rendering their service for each one of us by bringing in essential commodities into the state, the Chief Minister added.
