Aizawl: Celebrating the spirit of self-sufficiency started with taking up the Charkha by Mahatma Gandhi and encouraging the Indians to spin their own cloth, Governor Brig B.D. Mishra (Retd), on the 152nd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, invited loin loom weavers to the Raj Bhavan this afternoon.

Governor and Lady Governor Neelam Mishra shared lively interactions with a selected group of local weavers and discussed how this age-old skill should be passed on to the new generation.

Governor Mishra highlighted the importance of contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat, which he said started from small contributions similar to what the Mizo loin loom weavers were doing to earn income.

He and the Lady Governor professed that they were avid admirers of intricate designs on handwoven cloth and clothing items of the North East and assured the weavers that their products will continue to reap good incomes for them and their families, while simultaneously contributing to the state’s income.

At the end of their interaction, Governor and Lady Governor also gifted raw materials and bundles of yarn for their weaving works
