Imphal: Social Welfare minister Henry Okram said that the present government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, is working towards bringing about gender equality and inclusive development in the State. He was speaking at an event observing the International Women’s Day 2021 at JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal Monday.
Henry Okram gave his best wishes to all the women of the state on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021. Mentioning various welfare schemes introduced by the BJP led government, he added, the government is looking forward to introducing various programs and schemes for women empowerment in the State.
The Minister said that the status of Manipuri women is relatively higher compared with women of other regions and that our society has given due respect and space to women for ages. However, there is a need to spread awareness about women’s rights and empowerment. He stated that Manipuri women have been in the forefront of every social and political issue. He commended the role of Manipuri women towards the development of the State.
Commissioner (Social Welfare) Gyan Prakash recounted the history of women’s movement and the struggle for their rights across the world. He mentioned that Russia was the first country to announce March 8 as a public holiday recognising their struggle for their rights. He urged the people to put a collective effort to achieve gender equality.
