Imphal: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah assured to make Manipur an ideal state and end the Kuki insurgency problem if the BJP government was elected for the second time.
Addressing a public rally at Churachandpur, on Wednesday, Amit Shah said the return of the BJP government in Manipur will ensure a life free from bandh, blockades and move towards a more vibrant and developed state.
“Give us another five years, all Kuki militants in Manipur will no longer hold arms”, he said.
“ A new life will be given to the Kuki people by the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, he added.
“We have shown in Assam by resolving the Bodo problem”, “No Bodo youth has arms in their hands but laptops and keys of industries and vehicles”, he added. “We have also shown in Karbi areas, where 9500 militants laid down arms and joined the mainstream”, he added.
“I had claimed earlier that if BJP comes to power there would be no bandh and blockades and the N Biren Singh government has proved my claim,” he added. “Biren Singh had been a football player, he knows how to score goals and defend.”, he said. Biren stopped corruption and scored goals to improve connectivity and develop the state, he added.
“PM Modi has given emphasis to the development of Manipur. PM Modi has visited the north east more than 40 times.”, he said.
Manipur was facing drug, corruption problems during Congress rule but now the BJP government has given connectivity, infrastructure, health facilities, he said.
Biren Singh worked hard to end blockade culture and worked to achieve self-reliance, he added. Congress government gave, “Instablility, insecurity, insurgency while BJP government brought innovation, infrastructure, integration”, Amit Shah added.
Amit Shah also announced that BJP wants to make Manipur a sports hub. By freeing the youths from the grip of drugs and arms the government will try to make them win gold medals in Olympics, he added. Amit Shah said the country is proud of sportspersons like Mirabai Chanu, Mary Kom, Laishram Sarita, he added.
He said National Sports University will be established in Manipur in an area covering 325 acres and Rs 800 cr has been invested so far. The University will help the youths of Manipur and northeastern states, he added. All 16 districts of Manipur will also have Khelo India centres, he said. An Olympic park will be established where state-level players will be trained to become international level sportspersons, he added.
The demand of the people of Manipur was fulfilled by introducing the Inner Line permit (ILP) system in Manipur and Mt Harriet was renamed as Mt Manipur at Andaman island as a mark of tribute to the freedom fighters of Manipur, he said. Rani Gaindinlis museum will be established by spending Rs 15 cr as a tribute to the great freedom fighter, he added.
“The BJP government developed the hill and valley areas of Manipur equally”, he said. PM Modi was also concerned about the Covid vaccination drive in Manipur hill areas, he said. Go to Hill campaign was started by CM N Biren and Cabinet meetings were also held at Churachandpur district which showed the commitment of the government towards the hill areas, he said.
The two schemes of the government “Prabatmala” and “Vibrant village” will develop the hill areas of Manipur, he said. The BJP government worked in the interest of the farmers by providing Rs 6000 each annually to 6 lakh farmers of Manipur and 9 lakh people were covered by health schemes, he said. The government also constructed 32000 toilets, he said.
Amit Shah who arrived here on Wednesday also conducted a house to house campaign at Churachandpur. He will continue the house to house campaigns in other constituencies also. Manipur will go to polls on Feb 28 and Mar 5 next.
