Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona on Thursday called upon the state’s youths to “get high on life, not on drugs”.
Reiterating that the drug menace is one of the biggest challenges in society today, Sona made a fervent appeal to the youths not to indulge in substance abuse and suggested they rather get high on life and not on drugs.
The Speaker was addressing the ‘mock parliament’, organised by the State Legislative Assembly for students of various colleges as part of Constitution Day celebration at the Assembly Complex here.
Further, speaking on the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression enshrined in the Indian Constitution for every citizen, the Speaker asserted that when democracy gives us freedom it also gives us responsibility. He emphasized that people should always analyse and introspect before speaking out their opinions on any platform.
Expressing serious concern over growing trends of cyber crime, cyber bullying, social media trolling and other related activities causing serious mental health issues among the youths, the Speaker suggested the people, especially youths to use social media responsibly and for the good of others.
Although the cyber world has opened a wide range of learning opportunities for the youth and children, these opportunities and the endless ocean of knowledge have some serious drawbacks as well and one of the evils of this increase of knowledge and connectivity is cyber bullying, he pointed out.
“Cyber crime has emerged as one of the biggest modern day challenges,” Sona said and urged the youths to be responsible and make use of technology for productive things.
SP (SIC) Anant Mittal, SP (SIT) Rohit Rajbir Singh, Itanagar Capital Complex SP Jimmy Chiram, Associate Professor of TRIHMS Naharlagun Dr Rinjin Megeji and IFS officer Ranphoa Ngowa attended the mock parliament as resource persons and spoke at length on wide range of topics such as cyber crime, cyber bullying, trolling, mental health, menace of drug abuse, etc.
During the technical session, the students actively participated in the discussion and shared their views and ideas on the aforesaid topics and interacted with the resource persons. Taliha MLA Nyato Dukam also attended the event.
