Four migrant labourers assaulted in Meghalaya

A police official said the incident happened at Students' field in Jaiaw when the labourers employed by Party Decorator were erecting a marriage pandal.

Shillong: At least four migrant labourers from Assam were seriously injured after they were attacked by some masked men here in Meghalaya on Monday, police said.

A police official said the incident happened at Students’ field in Jaiaw when the labourers employed by Party Decorator were erecting a marriage pandal.

“They couldn’t identify the attackers as they were completely masked. We have registered a case and investigation is to trace the identity the attackers,” the police official said. The injured labourers – Md Shah Jahan (50) , Md Abdul Rahim Bhuiyan (20) , Md Khurshad (28) and Md Julas Udin (30) – were rushed to Civil hospital.

On Sunday, non-indigenous citizens led by a Bengali couple staged a sit-in protest against the continued targeted attacks on them by miscreants and demanded swift action by the government against the attackers.

The sit-in protest was held at Khyndailad (police Bazaar) near the old assembly building gate following the recent attack occurred on January 20 at Lumdiengjri area where three non tribals were attacked, one stabbed and others physically assaulted by miscreants.
