Four drug smugglers nabbed with 40 kg opium, drugs worth Rs 7.5 cr seized in Manipur

The four were identified as Sham Bahabur Dahal, Sanjit Dahal , Bishnu Adhikari and Khemraj Adhikari all residents of Ukhrul district.

Imphal: Manipur Police and troops seized 40 kg of opium and drugs worth about Rs 7. 5 cr in three separate incidents. Police said Imphal East police nabbed four alleged drug smugglers in Shongphel village on Friday with 40 kg opium and 16 bags of poppy seeds.

The four were identified as Sham Bahabur Dahal, Sanjit Dahal , Bishnu Adhikari and Khemraj Adhikari all residents of Ukhrul district. The arrested persons along with the seized items are being handed over to Litan PS for further necessary legal procedures.

In the second incident on Thursday during routine checking of vehicles at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengtabi, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a van.

On thorough search of the van, 109 grams of brown sugar in nine soap cases concealed in the dashboard were recovered. The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 21.8 lakhs.

In the third incident on Friday troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police apprehended a drug peddler at border village Songdai and recovered 1.76 Kgs of heroin in 43 soap cases.

The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 7.04 crore.

The recovered items along with the drug peddlers were handed over to Moreh and Singhat Police Station for further action.
