Shillong: The first day of the three-day Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, which was to have kicked off on Friday, was literally washed out due to inclement weather, with the organisers expressing their apologies and regret.
This year, arrangements for the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival have been made at Madan Kurkalang, Bhoirymbong, and Ri-Bhoi districts, not in the state capital, in order to avoid traffic congestion and related inconvenience to the public at large.
The organisers informed that Day-1 of the Cherry Blossom Festival had to be cancelled as the weather posed “potential risk” to the festival-goers and organizers alike.
However, the tickets for today would be valid for either Day 2 or Day 3 of the festival, the organizers announced.
Meanwhile, there has been continuous rainfall and fog accompanied by gusty winds since the wee hours of Friday in the city and other parts of the state due to the influence of the cyclonic storm Midhili.
