Family seeks Manipur Governor’s intervention on missing man

Apamba Singh of Thangmeiban Khomdram Selunba Leikai has been missing after he crossed over Sekmai village (as per CCTV footage) and went toward Motbung, a Kuki-dominated area in Kangpokpi district, on 19 April 2024.

Imphal: The family members of Khangenbam Apamba Singh, who has been missing for nearly two weeks, sought the intervention of Manipur Governor Miss Anusuiya Uikey to locate his whereabouts.

Apamba Singh of Thangmeiban Khomdram Selunba Leikai has been missing after he crossed over Sekmai village (as per CCTV footage) and went toward Motbung, a Kuki-dominated area in Kangpokpi district, on 19 April 2024.

He is among 31 Meiteis who have been missing since the violence between the Meiteis and Kukis broke out on May 3 last year in Churachandpur district.

On Thursday, a team led by Brigadier L Ibotombi Singh along with three others including the wife of the missing person met with the Governor of Manipur and apprised the disappearance of Apamba Singh. 

They requested the Governor to issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities to find out the whereabouts of Apamba and rescue him and to extend financial assistance to the family as he was the only bread earner of the family.

The Governor while listening to the details of the missing person, said she will instruct the concerned authorities to take up steps to find out the whereabouts and rescue the missing person and assured the team to extend all possible assistance from Raj Bhavan and the government. 

Director, IIIT calls on Governor 

Professor Bhaskar, Director, IIIT and officials called on the Governor and requested to grace the annual convocation ceremony of the Institute slated to be held on May 15. 

The team also apprised of the various developmental activities taken up in the Institute to the Governor. Governor consented (in-principle) their request to grace the ceremony on the scheduled date.

Professor Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU) along with Dr. Indira Sarangthem, Dean, College of Agriculture, CAU also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and apprised about developmental initiatives taken up in the University to support agricultural sector for a developed agronomy in the State and the North East in general.
