Imphal: Education minister S Rajen Singh informed that enrolment in government schools has increased six times. He cited improvement in infrastructure in the government schools and improvement in the education system of the state, as the reason for this.

Minister was speaking as chief guest on the occasion of the Premiere Show of the play “Ereipakkidamak” based on the New Education Policy (NEP) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal Sunday. Rajen said that after the launching of the School Fagathansi Mission in the state, the number of school drop-outs has decreased. There has been a turning point in the mindset of the people of Manipur, particularly among the guardians regarding the education of their children, he added.

He maintained that the central government led by Narendra Modi introduced the National Education Policy, NEP, 2020, NEP, which covers a wide range of areas in the education sector, including vocational and other co-curricular activities. The new policy will successfully be providing a prospect of job security to the citizens. The policy will bear fruit by the year 2030 as targeted, the minister informed.

That is why the department of education has initiated to sponsor and organize a mass awareness program on NEP through the medium of a play (Shumang Leela) i.e. “Ereipakkidamak”, the minister added.

Speaking as president, Youth Affairs & Sports minister Letpao Haokip said that education only can bring change in society. Efforts should be put to improve the education system.
