Chapra: Altogether eight criminals were arrested and the ornaments worth about Rs 20 lakh they had looted from a goldsmith Jitendra Prasad near Matihan Chowk under Dariyapur police station area of Saran district were recovered from their possession on Thursday.
Police Superintendent of Saran Santosh Kumar said here today that apart from the booty a country-made pistol, two cartridges, a knife and 8 mobile phones were recovered from the arrested criminals who hail from the Town Police Station area and Bhagwan Bazar Police Station area.
According to the SP the jeweller, a resident of Mohan Nagar locality under the town police station area of the district was returning along with his three associates by an autorickshaw after purchasing ornaments amounting to about Rs 20 lakh from Patna on Wednesday.
Some criminals intercepted the autorickshaw near Matihan Chowk and looted the ornaments from the jewellers by throwing chilli powder at them and fleeing away. The criminals had also stabbed and injured the jeweller who was treated at the local hospital.
