ED summons Moloy Ghatak to Delhi in coal scam case

Sources said this was the fifth such summon notice to West Bengal law minister Molay Ghatak asking him to appear in relation to coal smuggling.

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing the money trails in the coal trafficking scam across West Bengal, has issued a fresh summon notice to state law minister Moloy Ghatak asking him to appear at its Delhi office on Friday in relation to the ongoing investigation, sources said here on Thursday.

Besides him, another TMC MLA from Baghmundi, Purulia, Sushanta Mahato, was asked separately to appear before the ED officials in Delhi, also on Friday in the same case.

Sources said this was the fifth such summon notice to West Bengal law minister Molay Ghatak asking him to appear in relation to coal smuggling.

Meanwhile, another central probe agency- CBI- on Wednesday arrested seven Eastern Coalfield Ltd (ECL) present and former officials in connection with the coal scam case.

Among the arrested officials were ECL’s current general manager N C Mitra and three former GMs.

The anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation after hours of questioning them took them into its custody suspecting their alleged involvement in the scam, which has several thousand crores of rupees.

Among the arrested three former GMs are Abhijit Mallick, Sushanta Banerjee, and Tonmoy Das. Besides them, another ECL manager Mukesh Kumar was arrested.

The CBI is probing the scam following a Calcutta High court directive.

All the seven accused have been taken to Asansol for the judicial process, sources said.
