Imphal: The Election Commission of India, citing Section 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, has declared the polling on April 26, 2024, at six polling stations in 2-Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency as void.

A fresh poll has been scheduled for 30th April, 2024 (Tuesday) at the same stations, with voting hours from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The six polling stations which repolling will be held are: 44/20-Shangshak A; 44/36-Ukhrul (A); 44/41-Ukhrul (D-1); 44/50-Ukhrul (F); 45/14-Chingai and 47/33-Oinam(A1).

Interestingly, 44/20-Shangshak A is the home polling station of Congress candidate Alfred Kanngam S Arthur.  Unconfirmed reports said the candidate himself couldn’t step out to exercise his franchise due to pressure and restriction from unknown armed miscreants.

Earlier, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had complained to the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur that large-scale booth capturing, rigging of polls, force voted/cast of votes and destroying of EVM were reported to nearly two dozen polling stations and demanded repolls in these stations.

Manipur’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Pradeep Kumar Jha, said on Saturday night that fresh polling will be held in these six polling stations under the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat.
