Drugs worth Rs 500 crore seized in Manipur’s Moreh, Myanmar national arrested

One trafficker of Myanmar origin was apprehended by the team.  The narcotics seized comprised of approximately 54 kg of Brown Sugar and 154 kg of Methamphetamine (Ice Meth), they said.

Imphal: A combined team of the Assam Rifles (AR) and Manipur Police Monday seized over 200 kg of drugs, worth Rs 500 crore near the International Border of Moreh in Manipur.

Officials said that the combined team, based on hard and accurate intelligence launched a joined operation with Manipur Police in the border town of Moreh in Manipur and unearth a large number of narcotics estimated to be worth over Rs 500 crore.

As part of its Border Guarding mandate, Assam Rifles has been at forefront in combating cross-border narco-terrorism and insurgency emanating from Myanmar. This narco-terrorism is a major source of finance for the Indian terrorist groups based in Myanmar and has umbilical cord linkages with other players in the Golden Triangle. This scrouge is the main reason for rise in drug addiction among the youth of India especially North East region, and is also a source for fuelling terrorism in the region, a statement issued by the AR said.

Assam Rifles will continue to carry out extensive operations in close coordination with civil administration and police to combat terrorists and narco-terrorism, it added.
