Drug de-addiction centre opened in remote Arunachal village

Itanagar: A drug de-addiction center was launched in a remote village in insurgency-infested Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, official sources said on Monday.

Changlang South MLA cum Advisor to PWD (Eastern Zone) Phosum Khimhun has inaugurated the de-addiction center at Yanman village under Khimiyong circle of the district in presence of Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav, SP Mihin Gambo, District Medical Officer Dr K Mossang, ZPM (Khimiyong) Khapjong Techi, local leaders and members of CBOs.

The de-addiction centre, set up at the initiative of DC Devansh Yadav, started with the first batch of 26 opium addicts although as many as 80 addicts were motivated to join the rehabilitation centre, the DC said.
“The remote Yanman village had been grappling under the menace of opium addiction for a long time and the majority of the populace, especially the youth, had fallen prey to this menace in absence of other avenues,” he said.

Joining the district administration in this noble initiative, the 9th Assam Rifles donated rice for the inmates to motivate them. All the dignitaries present motivated the inmates and offered their assistance.
However, if any drug peddler is caught involved the illicit act would not be spared and stringent action would be taken as per law of the land, warned the district administration.
