Kakching: The Kakching District Skill Committee organised a District Skill Mela, 2023, on Thursday at JNURM Hall, Kakching Sumak Leikai. The mela was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
The programme was attended by Mission Director, Manipur Society for Skill Development, L.N. Kashung; as chief guest; Deputy Commissioner, Kakching, Somorjit Salam; as president and Chief Operating Officer-Skills, State Skill Mission; SRA/NRL, Anuradha Oinam; and Jt. Director, Manipur Society for Skill Development, Amarjit Rajkumar; as guests of honour respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, LN. Kashung stated that even though the literacy rate is high, the unemployment rate is also high in Manipur. It is critical in our society to raise awareness about skill development. Even educated people should stay fit and train. We must equip ourselves with the skills that are required to meet the demands of our rapidly growing economy. We must be very clear about what skill is and what it is used for.
In his presidential speech, Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam of Kakching said that in Manipur there are many educated people who are unemployed. In the future, educated people would not survive without possessing a unique skill. In order to create jobs, skill development through hard work and efficiency is essential in our society, he added.
ADM, Kakching Adahrii Maheo points out in his welcome and keynote addresses that the development of skills can contribute to structural transformation and economic growth by enhancing employability and labour productivity.
The District Skill Mela was organised to generate awareness and facilitate the selection and enrollment of interested persons for skill development training in different sectors under the various skill development schemes of the Central and State governments.
A Talk Show was moderated by Managing Director, SYNAPX, Anil Haorokcham as part of the Mela, and participants included LDM, Kakching, A. Athias; Proprietor, Mukta Shoes & Padmashri Awardee, Moirangthem Muktamani; Proprietor, Meira Foods, Hanjabam Subhra Devi; CEO/Co-Founder, Elle’s Group, Pradeep Meit
At Thursday’s Skill Mela, 22 stalls were open, including departments such as DIC, Fishery, Horticulture, and Agriculture, as well as other private companies.
