Imphal: Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of Tangkhul community, Saturday made it clear that to ensure permanent peace in the state, the Manipur government must work out a policy to allocate the displaced persons to their origin places, and not scattered in other places.Ā
A large number of families from a number of districts have been displaced due to the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. This unrest has affected the whole communities in the state, the TNL said in a statement.
However, it said, those semi-permanent relief camps which the state home department was trying to set up and operations in various districts including Ukhrul should not accommodate these affected and displaced persons from other districts. Instead, they should be allowed to settle in their original districts only.
The Tangkhul body further warned that if any displaced person from another district is found being allocated in Ukhrul district, it will oppose such moves and any eventualities that arise must be the sole responsibility of the state government.
Earlier, a state government spokesperson said that the present violence between the Meiteis and Kukis has so far displaced over fifty thousand people and they are currently lodged in 349 relief camps in eight districts ā Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Kakching.
