Director A Santa inaugurates new facilities for cancer treatment at RIMS-Imphal

The newly installed machine will enable the department to provide intraoperative reports for clearance of cancer margin within a few minutes.

Imphal: The Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, Prof A Santa Singh, inaugurated new facilities at the the premier hospital of the state here on Wednesday. 

Santa inaugurated a Cryostat (Frozen section) and an Automated IHC Stainer (Ventana) at the Department of Pathology. 

The newly installed machine will enable the department to provide intraoperative reports for clearance of cancer margin within a few minutes. Also, it will help the Nephrology and Dermatology department of Immunofluorescence study during full work up of the patients. 

The Ventana Automated Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Stainer is a state of art instrument at par with the highest oncology centres of the country for molecular diagnosis of cancer. This instrument has a standardized system as compared to manual methods being used at present. It will help in diagnosis and subtyping of many malignancies, said Santa, while inaugurating the new facilities. 

It may be mentioned that the equipment was procured under the DIAMONDS project (under NCDIR- ICMR). The institute is providing free molecular tests for breast and lung Cancer. 

Our test will immensely help in cancer care for targeted therapy. The project will also be expanded by adding molecular testing of two more cancers namely Colorectal Cancer and Endometrial Carcinoma very shortly, the Director added. 

During the inaugural function Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Prof. Sushma Khuraijam, Head Department of Pathology, RIMS, Imphal and other faculty members were present.
