Imphal: Minister of YAS and Water Resources Letpao Haokip Saturday stated that development can be achieved only through healthy competition amongst us. Animosity and wars should be waged not against each other, but against diseases and other ills of the society, he added.
He was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 35th Annual Sports Meet of the Aimol Students’ Union at Aimol Tampak.
Minister Letpao said that he has already started taking up developmental works in various areas of Tengnoupal district. A person who comes out to be public leader or representative should not always wait till election time to take up development works. The public should also not get carried away by the ‘very old-school’ false promises of development only after he/she is elected. He assured that the roads leading to Aimol Khullen from Pallel Bazar will be improved drastically, and work for it has started and will be completed soon. . Moreover, he is thinking of setting up smart villages in the Tengnoupal constituency, whereby facilities of TV sets, mobiles phones and wi-fi connectivity will be provided for the convenience of the people, especially the students. He appealed all to focus more on positive attitude so that development may come, and not to always create issues as they hinder growth.
Talking about the issue over the ADC Bill, the minister said that there should be further work on this Bill so that an amicable bill can be presented in the Assembly floor. Any distrust and enmity between the valley people and hill people should not be built up, he added. He has been taking a pivotal role in bringing a good resolution to this issue, and the present Chief Minister is also in favour of bestowing some powers to the District Council, he further added.
The guests of honour of the event were President of Kuki Chiefs’ Association Tengnoupal, LS Seikhojang Baite; Social Worker, Mangte Joshep; and Chief of Aimol Satu village, Korsuala Aimol, while the functional president was Advocate Akhup.
