Shillong: To strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure the safety of patients and healthcare workers, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in collaboration with the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) and Bethany Hospital, Shillong, conducted a mock drill on earthquake and fire emergency scenarios at Bethany Hospital on Friday.

The exercise was aimed at testing the hospital’s emergency response mechanisms, evacuation procedures and coordination among various response agencies during disaster situations.

As part of the preparations, a one-day training programme was conducted on June 4 for medical, para-medical and hospital staff. The training was imparted by resource persons from MATI, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, and DDMA, covering emergency response, fire safety and evacuation procedures.

The mock drill provided an opportunity to assess preparedness levels and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, thereby enhancing overall safety and resilience.
