Agartala: The CPI (M) state secretary and central committee member Jitendra Chowdhury on Sunday called for ousting the BJP-led government in the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura.
Addressing a mammoth rally of the party’s trade union wing CITU here, Chowdhury alleged the government has “failed” on all fronts and only “deceived” people with lies and “false” promises.
“They have no moral right to approach people for votes. In 59 months, the rule of BJP has turned prosperous Tripura into a backward state where the smile on the faces of the common people was snatched away, which was brought by communists through 25 year-long battle,” he said.
The economy of Tripura flourished with good work opportunities and the Left-Front government till its last month in power had given jobs to qualified people. The Left had devised an alternative model of comprehensive development but soon after assuming power BJP created chaos and established a reign of terror and corruption, he alleged.
The development funds meant for the poor people are being looted and diverted to the pockets of saffron leaders. All opportunities have been blocked and leased out to outsourcing agencies, which has made the entire youth force a frustrated lot. As a result, drug addiction and its illicit trafficking, including the cannabis business, smuggling, and all other anti-social activities increased manifold, he claimed.
Chowdhury alleged the central and state governments led by BJP are “of the capitalists, by the capitalists, and for the capitalists” and asserted that the BJP regimes anywhere have done nothing for the working-class people. They make tall promises to deceive people but never keep them. So there is only one way of saving the people of Tripura and that is by ousting the BJP government in Tripura through democratic means in the next assembly election, he opined.
He also reiterated the charge that over the past five years under the BJP regime no election from Panchayat level to Lok Sabha, civic bodies, have been free and fair.
“The people must come forward to protect their democratic, legal, and constitutional rights by defeating the BJP government. The time has come for the people to unite in a struggle against the ‘anti-people BJP to safeguard the interests of all sections of people, the SCs, STs, minorities, and OBCs,” Chowdhury added.
CPI (M) politburo member Manik Sarkar also delivered a stirring speech calling upon people to prepare for a political fight to save Tripura and said, “They will stop at nothing, they will spend money and try to hoodwink people with false promises, but you have to be on guard so that security forces and the undesirable elements of BJP are not able to rig the upcoming assembly election.”
