New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre over the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and alleged his arrest is a part of the project of the ruling dispensation to “target” Opposition leaders.

“The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) condemns the arrest of Manish Sisodia, by the CBI. His arrest is part of the Modi Government project to ‘weaponise’ central investigative agencies to target Opposition party leaders,” the party said in a statement.

The CPI(M) alleged that in almost every state where the government is run by an Opposition party, cases are filed against leaders, arrests are made so as to “destabilise” the governments.

“The Modi regime is using central agencies to undermine democracy in India targeting the Opposition,” the party said.

The CPI(M) added, “The attack on Opposition leaders is also to divert attention from the increasing questions being raised about the nature of the relationship between the Prime Minister, the ruling party and its favoured big business houses like Adani.”

The probe agency arrested the Dy CM on Sunday after eight hours of marathon questioning in a case related to alleged irregularities in framing and implementation of Delhi Excise Policy.
