Covid tally in Odisha surges to 10,04,059 with fresh 849 cases in past 24 hours

Meanwhile, the state crossed the 50 lakh double dose vaccination with the inoculation of 1.3 lakh people on Wednesday.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 849 new covid positive cases in the past 24 hours taking the total tally in the state to 10,04,059.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 515 new cases from the quarantine centres and 372 local contact cases were reported from 71,231 tests conducted in the state in the past 24 hours, registering a test positivity rate of 1.19 percent.

The fatalities in the state surged to 7628 as 66 more covid deaths were reported during the death audit process being undertaken by the government.

Two coastal Odisha districts- Khordha and Cuttack alone accounted for nearly 52.7 percent of total new infections recorded in the state in the past 24 hours.

While Khordha district reported 313 new cases, Cuttack district registered 115 cases.The other 28 districts in the state recorded less than 100 cases each.The state for last one week has been witnessing below 1000 new covid infections daily.

Health and family Welfare department sources said in the process of the health audit out of 66 deaths a majority of 15 deaths were recorded in Cuttack district followed by Sambalpur ( 11)and Jagatinghour ( 8).These deaths, the government has clarified as not occurred during the last 24 hours but were confirmed as covid deaths during the health audit process.

In the last 24 hours 721 more covid patients were cured pushing the total recoveries in the state to 9,88,090. The covid active cases further reduced to 8288 of which two coastal districts of Khordha and Cuttack together accounted for 4311 cases, about 52 percent of the total active cases in the state. Since August 6 last the state has been reporting the test positivity rate below 2 percent.

As many as 25 districts in the state have recorded the test positivity rate below one percent in the past 24 hours.

Angul district, however, recorded the highest TPR of 4.3 percent during the period. Four coastal odisha districts such as Khordha,Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Puri have registered the TPR between 2 to 3 percent.

Meanwhile, the state crossed the 50 lakh double dose vaccination with the inoculation of 1.3 lakh people on Wednesday.

Official sources said till August 25 as many as 50,20,062 people have got the second dose while 1,60,42,455 have received the single dose in the state.
