Covid claims one life in Meghalaya

Shillong: One person died of Covid-19 while 22 new cases of infection were recorded in Meghalaya on Thursday, health officials said.

The state has so far registered 94063 confirmed cases, of whom 92369 have recovered. 

“A 35-year-old man, who had not been inoculated against Covid-19, died of the infection at a hospital in State’s East Garo Hills district,” a health official said.

The official also underscored the need to follow the ‘test, track, treat, vaccinate’ strategy and ensure Covid-appropriate behaviour.

On the other hand, the number of active Covid-19 cases was recorded at 58 in the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes the state capital Shillong with the district accounting for 13 new cases on Thursday.

The West Garo Hills reported five new Covid-19 cases with the number of active cases in the district at 29, Ri-Bhoi recorded two new Covid-19 cases with the number of active cases in the district at nine, while West Jaintia Hills and East Garo Hills reported one new case each.

“Two Covid-19 infected patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals in the state,” an official in the health department said, adding that six out of the total 12 districts had no active Covid-19 case as of date.

Meanwhile, of the 1411361 persons tested for Covid-19 in the state till Thursday, 1317298 were tested negative for the virus, the state Covid dashboard reflected.

According to the National Health Mission record, 32139 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 29502 have been administered with the second dose and 9860 have taken the third precaution dose, while 97024 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose, 85700 have received the second dose and 28476 have got the precaution shot, even as 1300328 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 947137have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 9890 citizens have taken the booster dose across the state as on date.
