Shillong: COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya have been on the decline for more than a week now with 191 new cases of infection adding up to 1888 active cases and four deaths, including that of three patients who were not vaccinated against the virus, increasing the number of fatalities to 1,337 on Wednesday.
The State also reported 228 more recoveries from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 74,246 in the State, which has so far registered 77,471 confirmed COVID-19 cases, Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new Covid-19 cases detected on Wednesday included 89 in East Khasi Hills district, 28 in Ri-Bhoi district, 25 in West Khasi Hills district, 18 in South West Khasi Hills district, 17 in West Jaintia Hills district, nine in West Garo Hills district, two each in East Jaintia Hills district and South West Garo Hills district and one case in East Garo Hills district district.
On the other hand, the number of active COVID-19 cases in East Khasi Hills, including State capital Shillong, which is the most pandemic-hit district has also come down to 930.
There has also been considerable decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases with cases of recovery increasing in the other districts of the State as well.
Of the 9,98,441 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till Wednesday, 9,20,970 persons were tested negative for the virus.
Meanwhile, 32,041 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 26,196 have received the second dose, 96,952 front-line workers got the first jab and 71,040 have taken the second shot, 9,09,636 persons from among the general population have been inoculated with the first dose and 2,34,169 have been fully vaccinated with the second shot across the State as on date.
