Corruption case registered against two for misusing CM Biren’s wife name

Imphal: SP Kakching District, Victoria Yengkhom has issued a press note clarifying on a news story published in some local dailies on April 20 wherein it was stated that some person using the name of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s wife took bribes with the promise of a job in the police department.

According to the press note, on receipt of a complaint from one Sagolshem Shyamjai Singh (36 years), son of Late Gunamani Singh of Pallel Mayai Leikai, on January 29, 2021 by the office of SP, Kakching, OC-PalleI PS was directed to take up necessary enquiry and action immediately.

The enquiry revealed that Sagolshem Shyamjai Singh had given a sum of Rs. 7,00,000/- (seven lakhs) to Khuraijam Niranjoy Singh, (60 years), son of late Khelapapu Singh of Pallel Mayai Leikai and Md Yahiya Khan, son of late Md Ahmed Ali of Thoubal Moijing in 4 (four) installments as they assured his appointment in the Manipur Police Department as constable through the Recruitment Rally of the year 2013.

It was further found that Md Yahiya Khan and Khuraijam Niranjoy Singh had misused the name of Hiyainu Devi, wife of the present Chief Minister of Manipur. The duo cheated the complainant by referring to the name of the lady without any kind of connection with her. Md Yahiya Khan is found to have habitually cheated people by misusing the names of unaware public servants, politicians etc, the press note continued.

On the basis of the enquiry, a case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and 420/500/506/34 1PC has been initiated against the involved persons under Kakching Police Station, added the press note.
