Guwahati: The United Opposition Forum of 15 opposition political parties in Assam on Friday said it intends to make “corruption allegations” against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family a key issue in next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
The forum, which met here during the day, also decided to finalise the common minimum programme for the parliament elections on November 30.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, forum spokesperson Lurinjyoti Gogoi said the meeting discussed many issues that have come up in the media recently and deliberated on the pros and cons of developments affecting the Forum.
He alleged that the land scam involving the Chief Minister’s family would be brought to the attention of the people during the elections. “We intend to make the corruption allegations against the chief minister’s family our key election issue”.
State Congress president Bhupen Kr Bora, Cong senior leader Debabrata Saikia, MP Ajit Bhuyan, President of Raijor Dal Akhil Gogoi, President of Assam Trinamool Congress Ripun Bora, State Coordinator of AAP Dr Bhaben Choudhary, NCP leader Jatindra Nath Bordoloi, CPI leader Kanak Gogoi, CPI (M) state secretary Suprakash Talukdar, leader Pankaj Kumar Das attended the meeting.
