Panaji: Goa Congress Working President and Curtorim MLA Alexo Reginald Lourenco resigned from his post on Monday.
He submitted his resignation to Assembly Secretary Namrata Ulman.
Lourenco was one of the eight leaders whose names were announced by the Congress Party in its first list of candidates for the assembly polls to be held early next year.
With his resignation strength of assembly got reduced to 34 while the number of Congress MLAs were reduced to two.
In the 40 member house, BJP has 26 MLAs, GFP two, TMC and MGP one each and two are independent.
Assembly elections in Goa are likely to be held early next year.
