Shillong: Congress on Monday released a ten-point “chargesheet” against the Conrad Sangma-led government, describing the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government’s rule in the past five years as “The Grand Meghalaya Loot.”

“Nothing can better describe the unprecedented, unabated, and unabashed corruption and scams during the last five years of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led MDA government in Meghalaya than these four words,” Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera told reporters.

Alleging that the corruption was “not only rampant but also systemic”, Khera said, “The scams, financial irregularities, and fraudulent practises across various sectors/departments were unprecedented in its scale and shamelessness and couldn’t have taken place without the knowledge, knowhow and blessings of the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma).”

The 10-point “charge sheet” includes the assembly dome collapse scam, the COVID scam, the MUDA scam, the coal scam, the saubhagya scam, the rice scam, the excise/bond cartelization scam, the casino scam, the friends and family – government contracts scam, and the police purchase scam.

“We are just listing 10 scams and financial irregularities in our chargesheet out of the hundreds of such scams that have happened under the MDA regime. The list is endless,” Khera said.

“The Congress government, when it comes to power, will ensure that the perpetrators of what we are calling the Grand Meghalaya Loot are brought to book and the embezzled money recovered from the perpetrators of this grand larceny,” the Congress spokesperson assured.
