Agartala: The AICC general secretary and in charge of Tripura Dr Ajoy Kumar today addressed an impressive gathering of Congress workers here at a time when the party, especially in the northeast, is facing a serious crisis of leadership and support base.

While projecting Congress as the only alternative of the country now, he claimed that the century-old party regained the trust of people in recently held by-elections and city polls.

Dr Kumar claimed people of the country have realised the danger of BJP in seven years rule of Narendra Modi and the future of India is dwindling every passing day in terms of economy, human resource development index and growth indicators where he advised the congress workers to reach out to common people.

“The sufferings of the people are increasing in manifolds – Job market is shrinking, the basic service sectors like education, health and transport sectors are going to the hands of some selected corporate. A profit-making public enterprise like Air India has been sold out to private parties and communal intolerance becomes prominent at every level,” Dr Kumar attributed.

Criticising the Central government he pointed out that all the reforms of the Modi government have appeared infructuous rather disastrous for the country. The GST regime, demonetisation and other administrative reforms brought by the Modi government have created hurdles for the common people but didn’t contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth and development.

“The communal violence and hatred between the communities are increasing day by day because of the indulgence of the ruling party. As mandated in the constitution, India is a secular country and every religion has the right to preach and practise their faith without any hindrance but in BJP rule this tradition is also disrupted,” Dr Kumar observed.

Referring to the recent spate of communal violence here following some incidents during Durga puja in Bangladesh, he alleged that the progressive state like Tripura has been hitting the national headlines for such shameful events, which lowered down the stature of the country to the global community.

Similar incidents happened in Lakhimpur Kheri. The farmers have been
demonstrating over a year to secure the agriculture sector from the invasion of business conglomerates. Unfortunately, Prime Minister has not been paying any heed to it. Several central ministers and BJP leaders privately repented for the situation of the country but were not able to speak out before Modi and Amit Saha, which indicates the situation of the country, he underlined.

Appreciating the efforts of the newly appointed president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Birajit Sinha and his team, Dr Kumar said despite several odds congress revived after a long year. Challenging violence and brutal atrocities on oppositions by the ruling BJP here, the congress party has fielded as many as 92 candidates in 334 seats of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections including 33 in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).

“We are confident people of Tripura would faith in congress in all the seats where our candidates are contesting in ULB elections,” Dr Kumar said, adding that Congress has no other alternative to save the country at this critical juncture.
