Congress appoints new Punjab chief

In the recent assembly polls, Congress lost Punjab to Aam Aadmi Party while Bharatiya Janata Party won Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday appointed Amrinder Singh Brar as the Punjab Congress Chief.

Pratap Singh Bajwa was appointed the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) chief. Bharat Bhushan Ashu was appointed the working president of Punjab Congress, and Raj Kumar Chabbewal was made deputy leader of CLP.

Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was asked to resign from his post in March along with states chiefs of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur after recent poll results.
