Lakhimpur: In poll-bound Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that Congress has allied with the people, who favour infiltrators and wants to seize power in Assam on the vote bank of such groups.
“Congress wants to seize power in Assam on the vote bank of those groups which have flourished due to infiltration,” Modi said while addressing an election rally in Lakhimpur district in Upper Assam, which is going to polls in the first phase on March 27.
Launching a scathing attack on the Congress-led `Grand Alliance’, Modi said, “I have come to wake you up today. Congress has joined hands with people who want to destroy the identity of Assam. Will you let this happen? Let your culture and tradition be destroyed?”.
Taking a potshot of Congress alliance with AIUDF, Modi said the group that is known to discriminate against the original inhabitants of Assam, Congress is talking about handing Assam over to such people.
“Congress can do anything for power, it can become friends with anyone and it can betray anyone,” Mr Modi said.
“This is not the “mahajyot” but “mahajhoot” of Congress,” he said.
The alliance led by Congress, which is being called the ‘mohajut’, consists of Bodo People’s Front and the AIUDF.
Talking about the achievements of the ruling BJP government, Modi said,”Today there is development in Assam, it is free from infiltrators”.
On tea tribes Modi said, “For decades, the Congress did nothing for the people working in the plantation. In 15 years of rule, these people were able to bring the wages of tea garden workers to around 100 rupees only”.
Listing out schemes of the government, Prime Minister said. “ The poor people in every region of Assam have LPG gas connections. LPG coverage in Assam has increased from under 50% to nearly 100% in just 5 years”.
Polling will be held in 47 seats in Assam on March 27 in the first phase, while 39 and 40 constituencies will go to polls on April 1 and April 6, respectively.
