COHSEM files FIR against fake news circulated through WhatsApp over exam cancellation

Taking the development seriously, the COHSEM clarified that position that the Class XI and Class XII Examination, 2021 have not been cancelled and the Council has not issued any such notification.

Imphal: The Council of Higher Education Manipur (COHSEM) Monday file a First Information Report (FIR) with the Additional SP, Cyber Crime, Imphal against fake news circulated through WhatsApp and other social media platforms over the cancellation of Class XI and Class XII exams on Sunday.

The fake news stated that “…informed to all the concerned that due to pandemic of Covid-19 Council Examination of both Class XI and Class XII standard has been cancelled under the influenced of government, parents and teachers.”

It further said that “As per scheduled students of Class XI will be promoted to Class XII and students of Class XII will be promoted to college, however students of Class XII will leave Higher Secondary according to their Class XI Council exam result and their attendance in Class XI.”

Taking the development seriously, the COHSEM clarified that position that the Class XI and Class XII Examination, 2021 have not been cancelled and the Council has not issued any such notification.

“The said Notification is a forged and fabricated document and a copy of the same is enclosed herewith for kind perusal. Further, the signature of the Secretary of the Council has also been forged in the said fake Notification,” said the FIR, signed by Ch Biren Singh, Secretary, Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.

“It has been brought to the notice of the undersigned by Shri Ph Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Section Officer of the Council that in his WhatsApp Account with Mobile number 9402752946, he is the administrator of a WhatsApp Group named as “Council HrSec&Coll Group” and at around 10.39 pm on 09-05-2021, the said fake Notification was forwarded in the WhatsApp Group my mobile number 7005123810.”

It further noted that a serious crime has been committed hurting the sentiments of all the students involved including their parents as well as the public at large. At the same time, the reputation and image of the Council has also been seriously harmed and tarnished.

The FIR urged the Cyber Crime to immediately investigate and apprehend the culprits at the earliest.

In a separate statement, the Council also strongly condemned such “irresponsible actions” which affect the students and parents including their mental health and wellbeing during this horrible Covid-19 situation.

It further appealed to all concerned that any official notification or information by the Council shall be uploaded in the official website – www.cohsem.nic.in and also circulated in the local daily newspapers and any unreliable information through unofficial channels or social media be treated with caution.
