Shillong: Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya are scheduled to go on a joint visit to the disputed Langpih village on the Meghalaya-Assam border sometime next week.

“Most probably on November 17, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and myself will be making a joint visit to Langpih,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.

Langpih village, which is about 60 km from Guwahati in Assam and 140 km from Shillong, has been a bone of contention between the neighbouring states, Assam and Meghalaya.

He said that the joint visit will be more of a confidence building exercise by the Chief Ministers of the two neighbouring states, aimed at resolving the inter-state boundary issue.

“It’s just a question that the chief ministers of the two state governments are together on this issue and that we want to find a solution,” Sangma said. The Chief Minister also informed that the regional committees set up by both the states are also expected to submit their respective reports soon.

“We will then see how to move forward, based on the response we get from them,” he said.
